Getting small droplets of e-liquid in your mouth during a draw is a messy, unpleasant experience that can leave a bitter taste and even cause minor throat irritation. This issue, often called “spitback,” usually happens when the heating element gets flooded, the airflow path is blocked, or you draw too hard and fast for the device to handle. You can avoid almost all spitback with a few simple adjustments to your daily habits, no extra tools or complex cleaning steps required.

Adjust Your Draw Strength and Inhale Speed

Fast, sharp pulls that last less than 2 seconds create a sudden rush of air through the airflow system, which can pull unvaporized e-liquid straight past the heating element and into your mouth before it has time to turn into vapor. Swap these quick, hard draws for slow, steady inhales that stretch 3 to 5 seconds from start to finish, letting the heating element warm up evenly and vaporize the liquid completely. Do not pull with your full lung strength, use gentle, consistent suction that feels like sipping a thick milkshake through a straw. This controlled draw speed gives the device enough time to process the e-liquid into smooth vapor, instead of spraying leftover liquid droplets straight up into your mouth.

Keep the Device Upright and Clear of Clogs

Storing or using your device on its side or upside down for long periods lets e-liquid pool in the wrong parts of the airflow path, which leads to flooding and spitback when you next take a draw.
